The role
Part-time Event Host
This is a public-facing role for someone who can be warm, clear, prepared, and steady when a room gets loud.
WhereLexington, Columbia, and nearby Midlands venues
WhenMostly weeknights, with occasional private events
CompensationPaid per event, with training before independent hosting
Dependability and presence
- Comfort speaking to a room
- Friendly, calm, and able to think on your feet
- Reliable transportation and weeknight availability
- Comfort with basic event technology
- At least 21 years old because many events are hosted in bars
What good hosting looks like
You do not need a radio voice or a stand-up routine.
1. Make people feel safe to participate
The best hosts are welcoming, clear, and able to include new players without embarrassing them.
2. Keep the night moving
Good pacing protects the energy. You will learn the Four Dogs formats and how to adjust without losing control.
3. Take care of the venue
Hosts communicate well with staff, respect the room, and understand that the venue relationship matters.
